Expository WritingExpository writing is the tested writing style on the STAAR test. In short, an expository essay is explaining something. For example, an expository prompt would read: "Think about a time in your life when you received a gift that you loved. Explain what made that gift so special to you." You are not telling a story about the gift, instead you are explaining why you loved that gift so much. It is very easy to accidentally shift into a story when writing expository. That is what makes it so difficult.
